During these exceptional times some things don’t change, foster carers are still needed and much in demand.

In our experience, we’re seeing an increasing number of young people coming into care. Unfortunately, in some cases this is due to families which may have been in crisis pre-lockdown which have since broken down, because of this we need even more foster carers than before. Please call us on 020 8313 3304 if the idea of fostering is stimulating your interest.

No child has asked to come into care, what they ask for is a sense of normality and a sense of identity. Also taking into consideration the current circumstances what’s still required from a foster carer is good communication and listening skills. You need to help a child and young person navigate being in foster care as well as the situation that we’re all now in due to coronavirus social distancing.

What our fostering agency offers

As a fostering agency, it’s business as usual for us. We’re operating as normal including assessing and approving foster carers, supporting our present carers who are working as normal, and finding liaising with schools has fitted easily into their daily routine.

The assessments for new carers are continuing in the same timescale as before Lockdown.

Our independence and size enable us to be innovative and creative in our approach to fostering.

Children and young people are the reason for everything that we do, but we never forget that our foster carers, in order to support children, must be well cared for if they are to do their very best work.

Once you become a foster carer with OwnLife, you are treated as the professional you have trained to be. You are the expert and an equal partner in our team, and you benefit from ongoing training which will help you every step of the way.
